Idealite built SMI so Tamohara can give every advisory client personal, up-to-date advice and confirm it was followed.
{ Project Overview }
About the Project
Tamohara Investment Managers is a Mumbai investment firm registered with SEBI as both a Portfolio Management Service and an Investment Adviser, under the tagline "We invest in businesses, not stocks." Its advisory clients place trades themselves, through their own brokers, within a pre-allocated investment amount. That model puts two demands on the advisory team. Every client needs advice sized to their own amount, and every change to a model strategy means fresh advice for everyone who follows it. And because the firm does not place the trades, the only proof that advice was followed is each client's broker contract note, which someone has to open, match to the right client and check against the advice. SMI (Stock Management Investment) brings that work into one place, from model strategies to trade checks and a manager's view of the whole advisory book. Idealite built SMI as the back office for Tamohara's advisory team.

{ How We Built It }
Development Process
How the Tamohara engagement came together, step by step.
- 01
Understand the Advisory Model
Mapped how Tamohara's advisory side works: model strategies, each client's investment amount, advice sent by email, and trades clients place through their own brokers.
- 02
Advice That Stays Current
Tied every client's advice to its model strategy, so a decision by the investment team reaches every client on that strategy at once.
- 03
Personal Advice in One Flow
Let the team turn a client, an amount and a strategy into ready-to-send personal advice in one guided flow.
- 04
Close the Loop With Clients
Gave the team a guided way to confirm each client bought what was advised, and to follow up when they did not.
- 05
Show Managers the Whole Book
Gave managers one view of pending trade checks, strategies, clients and staff, so they can see what still needs attention.
{ Results & Impact }

Objectives
- Scale Personal Advice: Give every client advice sized to their own investment amount from a single model strategy.
- Keep Clients Current: Make every change to a strategy reach each client who follows it, so nobody acts on outdated advice.
- Confirm Advice Is Followed: Check each client's trades against the advice and follow up on any difference.
- One View of the Book: Give managers a single view of strategies, clients, staff and the trade checks still pending.
Requirements
- Strategy builder combining NSE/BSE stocks, Liquid BeES and cash, with an indicative weight for each holding
- Strategy editing and rebalancing, with changes flowing into every advisory linked to the strategy
- Advisory creation: choose a client, an investment amount and a strategy, calculate the indicative quantity per stock, then review a performance sheet and a preview
- Email delivery of assigned strategies and advisories to clients
- Client and subscription management, plus a staff list
- Contract-note intake: unlock password-protected broker PDFs, identify the client by PAN, then extract and store the trade data
- Comparison of purchased quantity against advised quantity, with differences flagged and client emails sent from the same screen
- Dashboard counts of verified, failed and unassigned contract notes, strategies, clients and staff, with Client List, Staff List and Statistics views
Architecture
- Staff-facing web platform for the advisory team; clients receive advisories by email
- Each advisory is linked to a model strategy, so a rebalance updates every linked advisory
- Three-step advisory flow: Create Advisory, Performance Sheet, Preview
- Three-step contract-note flow: Password Authentication, Client Identification, Stocks Verification
- Extracted trade data is stored and compared per stock with the client's last advisory
Front end
- Dashboard with counts of verified, failed and unassigned notes, strategies, clients and staff, plus Strategies and Top Clients tables
- Strategy builder listing symbol, ISIN, last closing price and indicative weight, with Add Shares and a running total weight
- Create New Advisory wizard: client, amount and strategy, with indicative weight and quantity per stock
- Contract-note verification view: the PDF beside a purchased-vs-advised table with a Difference column and Mail Sent markers
- Advisory, Strategy, Unverified, Verified, Client List, Statistics and Staff List sections
Back end
- Indicative share quantities calculated from each client's investment amount and the strategy's weights
- Rebalance propagation to every advisory linked to a strategy
- Unlocking of password-protected contract-note PDFs, client matching by PAN, and trade-data extraction
- Advised-vs-purchased comparison with per-stock difference flags
- Email delivery of advisories and follow-ups to clients
- Records of clients, subscriptions, strategies, advisories, contract notes and staff
Challenges & solutions
- Clients trade on their own: in an advisory model the firm does not place orders, so each client's broker contract note is the only evidence of what they actually bought.
- Notes need preparing before any check: contract notes arrive as password-protected PDFs that have to be unlocked, matched to the right client and read before any comparison can start.
- One strategy, many investment amounts: every client needs share quantities sized to their own amount, and the quantities change whenever the strategy does.
- Rebalances must reach everyone: when a strategy's holdings or weights change, every client advisory linked to it has to change too.
- Mixed holdings: strategies combine listed stocks with Liquid BeES and cash, each with its own indicative weight.
- Backlog visibility: managers need to see which notes are verified, which failed and which are not yet matched to a client.
Outcomes
- Model strategies across stocks, Liquid BeES and cash, built and rebalanced in one place
- Advice sized to each client's investment amount and emailed from the platform
- Strategy changes that reach every client following that strategy
- Client trades checked against the advice, with differences flagged for follow-up
- One dashboard for pending trade checks, strategies, clients and staff
