{ Project Overview }

About the Project

LoFoods (styled Lo! Foods on its site; formerly BajoFoods) is a Bangalore-based brand that makes low-carb, high-protein and gluten-free versions of everyday Indian foods, from atta, bread and rusk to snacks, cookies and sugar-free chocolate, under sub-brands such as Protein Chef, Gluten Smart and DiabeSmart. It also runs fresh meal subscriptions from its own cloud kitchens. A store of its own gives a young food brand a direct line to its customers, but only if checkout offers the payment options shoppers expect and its packaged products reach buyers across the country without resting on a single delivery partner. Idealite helped the startup set up that store on Shopify, with three core responsibilities: setting up the payment gateways, connecting multiple delivery partners and working with the theme's Liquid templates.

{ How We Built It }

Development Process

How the LoFoods engagement came together, step by step.

  1. 01

    Map How LoFoods Sells

Started from how the brand takes orders, gets paid and ships, so the store's setup matched how the business runs.

  2. 02

    Open the Checkout

Set up the payment gateways so shoppers have more than one way to pay online at checkout.

  3. 03

    Line Up Delivery

Connected multiple delivery partners, giving orders more than one route to customers across India.

  4. 04

    Shape the Shopfront

Tailored the store's pages to the brand's own range rather than relying on off-the-shelf layouts.

  5. 05

    Ready to Sell

Brought checkout, delivery and storefront together so the store was ready to take and fulfill orders across India.

Delivering Business Value

Technical details

Requirements, architecture, development, testing and deployment notes.

Objectives

  • Sell Direct Online: Give the brand an online store of its own for selling straight to customers.
  • Take Payment Online: Let shoppers pay at checkout the ways they already use.
  • Deliver Across India: Get orders to customers throughout India without depending on one delivery partner.
  • Showcase the Range: Present the brand's range on store pages built around its own products.

Requirements

  • Payments: checkout must accept online payments through third-party payment gateways.
  • Delivery: the store must hand orders to multiple delivery partners.
  • Storefront: template-level changes in the theme's Liquid code, beyond what the theme editor's settings allow.
  • Minimal custom backend: rely on Shopify's hosted checkout and order system rather than custom server code.

Architecture

  • Hosted platform: the store runs on Shopify (lofoods.myshopify.com, served at lofoods.fit).
  • Theme layer: storefront pages render from a Shopify theme written in Liquid templates.
  • Payments: checkout hands payment off to third-party gateway platforms for card, net banking and prepaid instruments.
  • Fulfillment: orders ship through multiple delivery partners connected to the store.

Technology stack

  • Shopify: hosted e-commerce platform for the storefront, checkout and orders.
  • Liquid: Shopify's templating language, used for the storefront theme.

Front end

  • Liquid: template-level storefront changes beyond the theme editor's settings.

Back end

  • Payment gateways: set up the third-party gateways that process checkout payments.
  • Delivery partners: hooked up multiple delivery partners to ship the store's orders.
  • Little custom backend: Shopify hosts the platform, so the work was setup and integration rather than custom server code.

Deployment

  • Hosting: Shopify hosts the store, served on the custom domain lofoods.fit.

Outcomes

  • A brand-owned online store through which LoFoods sells direct to customers.
  • Online checkout through third-party payment gateways, with more than one way to pay.
  • Order delivery across India through multiple connected delivery partners.
  • Store pages shaped in Liquid around the brand's range, beyond the theme editor's settings.
